About

I’m a proofreader, passionate about providing friendly, constructive and detail-focused support.

Consistency matters to me, both in the detail and in the way I work with my clients.

When working on your manuscript, I look for the small details that others might miss: spelling errors, grammar slips, awkward punctuation, and inconsistencies – the things that affect your credibility and the reader's experience.

I believe proofreading should be flexible and non-judgmental, with clear communication throughout. My role is to help you feel confident in your writing, ensuring your voice remains your own, while leaving you in full control of what to keep and change.

And if you have any questions afterwards, just drop me an email.

My Approach to Proofreading

What you can expect:

  • Detail-focused proofreading

  • Respect for your writing style

  • Constructive feedback

  • Support if you have questions afterwards

What you won’t get:

  • A rushed edit

  • A know-it-all attitude

  • One-size-fits-all editing

  • Poor communication

I trained with the Institute of Publishing and am an active member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), through which I continue my professional development.

The Story Behind the Name

The name Kemend was my husband’s idea. It comes from emend, meaning to correct or revise a text, with a nod to the em and en dashes that proofreaders encounter along the way. The K comes from my first initial, making it a name that’s personal to me as well as connected to what I do.

When I’m not proofreading, I spend my time reading, crocheting, pottering in the garden (though I’m not fond of the bugs), or simply relaxing with a double choc mocha.

A Personal Thank You to Kelly Caine

As an author, you place a great deal of trust in the people who help prepare your work for publication. From the moment Kelly Caine became involved with Crack On, I knew my manuscript was in safe hands.

Her eye for detail, patience, and genuine passion for helping authors shine through in everything she does.

Kelly worked tirelessly to present my book in the best possible light while preserving my voice and the story I wanted to tell. Her advice, encouragement, and professionalism gave me confidence during every stage of the publishing process.

The journey from manuscript to published book is rarely straightforward, but Kelly's expertise made the process smoother and far less stressful. I am extremely grateful for her contribution to Crack On and would warmly recommend her to any writer seeking a skilled, trustworthy editorial professional.
